Weekly Image Of Life: Getaway

For this week’s Getaway I take you to Prague parks. All shots were done at the same month and the same year, in November 2010, the first one in November 14 and the second one in November 30.

First gallery is from the place of my childhood, still in Prague easily reachable by subway, but already at Prague borders. Lovely Ďáblice háj (Devil’s wood, where Devil’s = Ďáblice is the name of the quarter of Prague 8), place where we were going to play, for a walk, to country ski, definitelly great getaway when you don’t have much time to leave Prague.

Rieger’s park is almost in the city center, but still nice walk. You will find nice views there, Beer garden (in summer), place where you can walk your dog.

Love them both but I would say, the park of your childhood is even more special. It holds the echoes of children’s laughter, with one of the voice as yours. The golden lanterns reminded me of my childhood as well. I remember playing with my sisters and cousins all day by the fields, the trees, the pond where we used to fish and catch tadpoles. A little version of my personal land of Oz. Thanks for sharing a beautiful post.

Katy, one of our favorite things during our week in Prague was the flyers being passed out on the street corners. It was summer, and the flyers were advertisements for concerts through the city…..in churches, gardens, halls. Fantastic cultural events and not just nail salons etc as you would get in NYC. I remember there are two opera houses in Prague…..two! It is a wonderful city! I do hope we can make a return visit.

I love Prague, but what happened during last months that you find a Thai massage salon on EVERY corner! One also at the beautiful Štorch building at the Old Town Square, where always was a cozy bookshop! At least they (responsible people) started to talk about it, that the big THAI and other non-fitting flyers and commercials will have to change to fit to Old Prague. At least … but as tourists prefer visiting massages (which is understandable) to book shops …

The devil’s wood is an aptly named place to just play to one’s delight — excellent photos, thank you for sharing this!

I love Prague. I have been there once more a decade ago in Summer. I always thinking of revisiting. To my surprise to see your comment above that there are many Thai massage currently. I wonder whether it is a readitional massage or a modern massage. It’s shame if thoses massage salon destroy the Old lovely Prague.
